Sleepless in Vancouver

Sleepless in Vancouver

Here I lay, so late at night,
On the couch, beneath a light.
Here I’m likely to remain,
As I listen to the rain.

I’m alone; the house is still.
Droplets splash the window sill.
Metal roof and tree leaves dripping,
‘have a book but pages flipping.

Vacant words. I’m not quite reading.
Comprehension’s not succeeding.
Refrigerator hums along –
Counterpoint to nature’s song.

Cat is curled up tail to nose
At my feet’s the place he chose.
Must be nice to relax there,
Breathing faintly, not a care.

I’ll have wasted half the night,
Waking, still, at morning light.
I’ve many things I need to do
When rain and sleepless nights are through.

But, true to my ironic fate,
I’ll work fatigued and come home late.
I’ll wait again for sleep to come
Accomp’nied by rain’s steady drum.

A young man offers his affections to whomever it is that he might, someday, marry. You need never be alone. Just sayin'.

If You Were Alone

If you were alone
Then who would love you?
Who would say,
“Beloved, mine, oh please do stay? ”

Who would whisper soft at night
The things you need to hear?
And who but I could draw you close
And comfort any tear?

A young man dreams of having someone to love. The kid just doesn't want to be alone, alright?

And They Shall be as One

Behold the shadow of my mind.
It dwells in obscure mist.
I keep it veiled in deepest caves.
It’s thoughts I shall not list.

For, it is mine, alone to know —
To fathom its strange way,
And govern paths that it must tread
Alone from day to day.

But, I am not the kind of soul
That craves to walk alone.
Yet, I have walked, until this date,
A course that I bemoan.

I have the need that Adam did
To know another soul;
To find for self a compliment
And take another role —

To mesh in mind and body with
The person that you are;
To join into a lasting bond
That none can break or bar.
